What is Tool and Die?

September 8, 2018

Manufacturers cannot make their products without the right tools and dies. Does using the latest high tech equipment to create tools critical for manufacturing sound right up your alley? Consider a career in tool & die. What is a die? A die is used to cut and shape material, mostly by using a press machine.

Tool and die makers use blueprints, sketches, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer-aided design (CAD) to develop products and parts. Being good at math will come in handy when calculating sizes, shapes and tolerance of tools.

Work in machine shops, toolrooms and manufacturing facilities while being trained on the job. You can also train for a career in tool and die right here with Elizabethtown Community and Technical College’s Apprenticeship Training Progam. Plus, with the Work Ready Scholarship, you can earn a certificate, diploma or associate’s degree tuition-free.

You can build a successful career right in your hometowns, whether it is Lebanon, Bardstown, Elizabethtown, Leitchfield. Our region is home to many thriving manufacturing facilities.
