Taking the stress out of job seeking

December 6, 2019

Carter Dyson

A recent survey conducted by Hired found that 83 percent of people consider job searching to be a stressful process. The percentage is higher than almost every other stress-inducing activity on the list, including getting a root canal. There’s no doubt about it - preparing to enter or re-enter the workforce can be mentally and physically taxing.

The staff at the Kentucky Career Center – Lincoln Trail understands that job searching can be overwhelming, which is why we seek to be a one-stop solution for job seekers and employers. By providing practical professional services to both potential employees and employers, we hope to foster a competitive workforce to strengthen our region.

With four centers in the area, job seekers have convenient access to information about everything from job openings to specialized assistance and training programs. Our facilities are strategically located in Elizabethtown, Bardstown, Lebanon and Leitchfield, each providing a variety of professional services at no cost, including:

1. Career Counseling
Career counseling is provided free of cost to all Kentucky Career Center – Lincoln Trail visitors. Our qualified career counselors work one-on-one with job seekers to discover their personal gifts, talents and interests, and then match them to a potential vocation.

2. Job Seeking Assistance
We work closely with Lincoln Trail employers to build relationships so we know who is hiring and what skills are in demand in the area. Furthermore, our experienced counselors provide individual assistance to help job seekers craft a professional resume, cover letter and even help in the application process. With an inside-look at job openings, we often provide referrals to employers that are looking for certain talents or experience.

3. Educational Support
Free workshops and video presentations are available to help build job seekers’ skill sets. These resources help participants learn more about a variety of topics including completing job applications, writing a resume and excelling at the interview process.

4. Technological Resources
Job seekers also are invited to use career center computers and Internet access to search for jobs, write a resume and other tasks related to their job search. We can even provide the space and equipment for job interviews via videoconference.

If you are currently in search of a job, I encourage you to stop by or call one of our four career centers today. You may be surprised at how simple the process can be with the right resources on your side of the table.
