ECTC Mobile Training Unit brings classroom to employers’ doorsteps

November 12, 2019

Mike Hazzard

At Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, we pride ourselves on working hand-in-hand with employers to ensure our workforce has the skills needed to succeed. Our commitment to workforce training is stronger than ever and that’s why when businesses throughout our region expressed needs for on-site training, we responded.

ECTC proudly unveiled its Workforce Solutions Mobile Training Unit in October. A customized bus with up to 16 work stations, it allows Workforce Solutions to provide training when and where it’s most convenient for businesses and their employees.

You’ll know it when you see it, wrapped in ECTC’s blue and gold and grand-scale images of trainees in various technical settings.

The mobile unit, which can be outfitted with equipment to meet employers’ specific needs, delivers high-quality training right to their facilities. That’s incredibly valuable to employers who need flexible, efficient options.

Consider the labor hours and other expenses incurred as 16 employees travel to and from an off-site training location. The Workforce Solutions Mobile Training Unit saves that time and costs. Consider, too, the difficulty in scheduling training for employees who work night shifts. The fully equipped mobile unit provides new scheduling options.

An array of training is available through the mobile unit, from specific technical training for advanced manufacturers, to leadership and communication skills, to computer skills and technology.

It’s no secret a skilled workforce is a top priority for employers in all business and industry sectors. As the workplace evolves and technology advances, employers must continually train their incumbent workers to ensure they have the right skills to compete in a global economy.

You cannot overstate the importance of our people — our region’s workforce — in our region’s continued economic growth.

It’s exciting to help develop that workforce with new, innovative tools such as the mobile unit. We’re also very proud that some of our community partners recognized the value of this new tool and elected to assist in funding the unit. Those partners include the Lincoln Trail Workforce Development Board, Kentucky Career Center – Lincoln Trail and the Elizabethtown/Hardin County Industrial Foundation Training Consortium. Their leadership played an important role in making this unique service a reality.

To introduce the mobile unit to our regional business community, the Workforce Solutions team is offering training in select topics at no cost. If you’re interested in training options, I strongly encourage you to check out the mobile unit.
